The new manager of Dunfermline Athletic says he is up for the challenge of getting the Pars back into the Premiership.

John Hughes saw his new side score their first Championship win of the season last Saturday when they defeated Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2-1.

The 57-year-old was only appointed as Pars boss last Friday, but will be in the dugout for the first time this Saturday when they take on Ayr United.

Greg Shields and Steven Whittaker were in interim charge of the squad since the club parted company with Peter Grant last month.

Both men took the team for last week's win at the Caledonian Stadium.

Despite the victory, Dunfermline remain bottom of the table, but are hoping to keep the wins coming in order to move up the positions.

A win this weekend could take the Pars as high as sixth, if other results go their way.

Meanwhile, Hughes, affectionately known as Yogi (like the former Celtic striker), talked to journalists in his first press conference with them at East End Park this week.

Anas Hassan, our Kingdom FM reporter, asked the opening three questions.

He asked Hughes about how his first few days have been since being appointed in his new role, what input he had last weekend and whether the win at Inverness will make life easier for the Pars after a difficult start to the league this season.
