Knockhill gearing up for a successful 2022 after coronavirus pandemic challenges

Kingdom FM recently visited Knockhill to find out how the circuit is gearing up for what they hope will be a successful 2022.

The last two years hasn't been easy for the venue due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, but did host Fife's biggest sporting crowd since 2019 for last year's British Touring Car Championship race weekend.

They are looking forward to a busy calendar of events in the months ahead though, with hopes that there will be no further disruption caused by the Covid-19 situation.

This coming Sunday (10 April) marks the first round of the Scottish Motor Racing Club, with a Hot Hatch Easter Family Fun Day taking place on 17 April.

On 12 June, it's the SMRC Racing event, which will be the circuit's Armed Forces and NHS Appreciation race day and just after that on 17 - 19 June, the Bennetts British Superbike Championship will visit the venue.

On 2 -3 July, the McRae Rally Challenge is taking place, with legendary Scottish Olympian Sir Chris Hoy expected to be involved at the event after driving Colin McRae's subaru for a BBC documentary.

Elfyn Evans, the Welsh FIA World Rally Championship star, is also taking part on the Sunday of that weekend (3 July).

While the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship for 2022 starts later this month at Donington Park in Leicestershire, it doesn't visit Knockhill until 30 - 31 July, with the visit to the circuit then marking rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the championship.

Other events will continue to run until November, when its annual Bonfire and Fireworks Night takes place.

Meanwhile at the start of this week, Touring Car testing was taking place at the circuit prior to the start of the season (see video above).
