I have a glider pilot’s licence. I got to fly solo for the first time ever on my 16^th birthday.

 

Were you naughty when you were at school? 

Not really. Being naughty meant detention, extra homework and lost privileges. Any bad behaviour was saved for after school!

 

First job - and would you do it again?

Saturday job in a gift shop. I had to dust hundreds of tiny Swarovski crystal animals. I’ve never dusted anything since!

 

While the music's playing, what do you do? 

I multi-task like a demon: reading tabloids; tweeting; checking music websites; checking running orders; listening to what’s coming next; working out what I’m going to say next; drinking coffee; eating biscuits; gossiping; answering the phone; singing along to whatever’s playing. Or just racing to the loo.

 

What’s your favourite song of all time?

 That’s almost impossible to answer. I have so many favourites. But at a push I’d probably say Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit. I was given a gold disc for the Nevermind album when I worked at Radio 1. I still get quite nostalgic and emotional when I hear it.

 

Which actress would you choose to play you in a movie about your life?

 Helena Bonham Carter. I met her at a voiceover studio and she was instantly friendly and adorable. And she only lives up the road, we’re almost neighbours.
