Worries Over Life Expectancy In Fife

The average age of a man in Fife is 77 years old.

Life expectancy for men in Fife is falling behind other parts of Scotland and an MSP wants Scottish Government support to arrest the decline.

Between the turn of the century and 2002 Fife was 14th out of Scottish local authorities for male life expectancy.

But it slipped to 21st from 2010 to 12.

Men in Fife can expect to live to 77 years of age - just above the Scottish average of 76.6.

Local Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser says it's good to see The Kingdom above the national average, but he's concerned to see it slipping down the league.

He wants to see Scottish government support, to avoid it becoming a long term trend.
