Work To Begin On Kelty’s New Skate Park

Cllr Ann Bain, Cllr Willie Clarke, Cllr Alex Campbell and some young people involved in the project.

Work will begin on a new skate park in Kelty in the next few weeks; the second of four in the Cowdenbeath area that is set for new or upgraded skate park facilities.

The new skate park is being built at the playpark in Keltyhill Avenue and is a much needed replacement for the former skatepark at Blairadam Park. It’s being funded by the Council’s Cowdenbeath Area Committee local community planning budget and the Fairer Scotland Fund.

Cllr Willie Clarke, Chair of the Area Committee visited the new site with local ward members and some young people that were involved in developing the plans. He said:

“Young skating enthusiasts have been vital in helping to decide on a new location for Kelty’s skatepark. They’ve also been a great help to develop the plans for it, which include several ramps and slopes.

“We’re all very pleased to be here today to mark work starting on the new facility which is due to be ready for use in early 2016.”

Cllr Mark Hood, Executive Committee member, is happy to see the wider skate park strategy for the area progressing. He added: “Improving skate park provision in the Cowdenbeath area has been a local priority in response to the Council’s commitment to improve sport and physical activity opportunities.

“Some time ago we identified the need to further develop the Cowdenbeath skate park and either replace or upgrade the surrounding skate parks in Cardenden, Ballingry and Kelty. Work is progressing well on the upgrade in Cardenden and we’re almost at tendering stage for the new skate park and multi-use games area for Benarty. We are working up plans for the replacement Cowdenbeath skate park so that construction can begin in 2016.

“It’s taken time to get to this point but the amount of community involvement, particularly from the skating community, has undoubtedly shaped the plans for the better. I look forward to the Cowdenbeath area boasting a top-class range of skating facilities for young people to enjoy.”
