'Woody' Mammoth For Sale in Dalgety Bay

Denis Carbonaro made the mammoth when he was asked to clear up garden waste

A mammoth that was made by a Dalgety Bay sculptor is being sold to make way for more bizarre creations.

Denis Carbonaro, 46, decided to build the 8ft sculpture when he was told by the council to remove chopped tree branches from the border of his garden.

After studying the skeletons of real extinct mammoths, Mr Carbonaro created an accurate skeleton which Cypress tree branches could be attached to.

'Woody', as the sculpture is now known, has been followed by a spider that appears to be climbing the semi-detached house.

The structures have become a talking point for the community with some driving specifically to see them.

Mr Carbonaro said: "The first two days, I didn't want to spoil the surprise so I was saying: 'I'm just building a hut for my motorbike' and then, after two days, you start to see the skeleton was looking more like a horse.

"Then the tusks arrived and it was very difficult now to hide what it was. But the shocking time was on the last day when i started putting the foliage on, and the eyes when a skeleton became alive.

"We started getting cars, we started getting people on purpose - the rumour was spreading.

"It was meant to be just an entertainment for the good weather of the summer - it was something I'd never tried before.

"I was cutting the tree here at the back and then the council came asking me not to leave them [the cuttings] on the ground.

"It was just overnight, I woke up in the morning and... Yes! I'm gonna make a mammoth."

He hopes to work with Fife Council in the future to add art to unused land.

He said: "I'm running out of space in my garden - I've got the big spider, the mammoth... so I'm gonna have to start letting people adopt my animals."
