Women Urged To Speak Up

Women across the Kingdom are being encouraged to speak up about issues affecting them.

An event's being held at Holyrood later asking women to act locally but think globally about political problems including poverty and the use of foodbanks.

This week Fife Council gave £35,000 pounds to Glenrothes foodbank to help it meet demand, thousands of Fifers have had to rely on emergency handouts over the past 12 months.

Agnes Tolmie, Chair of the Scottish Women's Convention says that's exactly the kind of thing women should be addressing.

She's also hoping more people will get involved after the political interest sparked by the independence referendum,

Ms Tolmie said: "Since the referendum there has been a marked increase in the number of women speaking out about issues which are important to them. Communities have been revitalised and women are responsible for bringing about a fresh dynamic to proceedings.

"Women want to see change, have their voices heard and politicians to act."
