What Women Need Discussion at Holyrood

Hundreds of women are gathering at the Scottish Parliament for an event to celebrate International Women's Day.

Holyrood has hosted such a gathering every year since 2007 - and today's features a diverse group of speakers.

They include Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Alicia Castro, who's the Argentine ambassador to the UK, and actor Abby Mavers.

Deputy Presiding Officer Elaine Smith is chairing the event - she says women still haven't cracked the glass ceiling

She said: "This year’s event will celebrate women from various spheres of life coming together to tell their story about what woman want and need. We have a diverse and inspirational line-up of speakers including an ambassador, parliamentarian, actor, volunteer and comedian. This event will allow each of them to tell their own story and articulate what they needed to overcome any barriers in their respective lives.”
