Warning Not To Use Dangerous Diet Pills

Fife Council warn against using pills which contain the deadly chemical DNP.

People across Fife are being asked to stay away from diet pills containing the toxic substance DNP.

It's being marketed and sold online as a fat burner in tablet, powder and liquid form but can lead to a dangerously high metabolic rate.

Earlier this year 21 year old Eloise Parry from Shrewsbury died after taking pills she'd bought on the internet.

The substance isn't safe for human consumption and can lead to symptoms like acute poisoning, dehydration and an irregular heartbeat.

Lisa McCann from Fife Council's Environmental Health Team says "DNP is a substance that is not safe for health, it is basically an industrial chemical and it's being marketed and sold online targeting people who're looking to bodybuild or lose weight and it is not a safe product for them to do, it's highly toxic."

Food Standards Scotland say anyone who believes they may have taken DNP should seek medical advice immediately.
