Two people die after coronavirus outbreak at a care home in Leven

Two people have died after an outbreak of coronavirus at a care home in Leven.

16 people at Scoonie House Care Home, located on Windygates Road, were tested positive for COVID-19, including the two people who passed away.

The news has come after it was revealed earlier this week more than half of deaths related to the virus across Scotland are happening in care home settings.

The Courier reports staff are said to be 'distraught' by the extent of the outbreak, especially after more strict social distancing measures were brought in at an early stage during the pandemic.

The identities of the two people who have died have not been revealed, but their relatives are being supported.

A spokesperson for the care home said: "The health and wellbeing of our residents and colleagues is our absolute priority, and we are doing everything we can to keep them well during this time.

"We have put in place a number of measures to safeguard our residents and we continue to work alongside Health Protection Scotland.”
