Transport Scotland Aiding St Andrews Rail Link

Campaigners met with Transport Scotland

Transport Scotland are offering their vital support to a campaign to introduce a rail link to St Andrews.

Earlier this week StARlink (St Andrew's Rail Link) met with officials from Transport Scotland to discuss bringing trains to the home of golf.

After the meeting a StARLink spokesperson said:-

"We very much appreciate Transport Scotland coming to St Andrews to meet us and for the help its officers have agreed to provide - we will now go ahead with the collation of evidence to bolster what we perceive to be
the unarguable case for a St Andrews Rail Link. It is actually quite disgraceful that the world golfing capital, Scotland’s ancient theistic metropolis and the home of the country’s oldest university, a unique town and premier international destination - does not have its own direct rail link, the only viable means of providing en-masse transportation that is economical, environmental and efficient."

A feasibilty study will now be presented for appraisal.

Their campaign focuses on the historic and cultural significance of St Andrews. It is the home of golf, famous university town which attracts tens of thousands of tourists but has no rail link. There is also the environmenral concerns as most people use a car to get there.
