Tractor Stolen In Methil Crashes

A tractor was stolen on Tuesday morning before the thief crashed and abandoned it.

Police in Fife are appealing for witnesses after a Volvo HGV tractor unit was stolen from an industrial yard in Methil yesterday.

The theft was done at around 7:15am at Naylor Drainage on Cowley Street.

A short time later the large 7.5 tonne vehicle collided with a bus shelter and with a parked car on Methilhaven Road before it was abandoned on Kirkland Walk.

No one is known to have been injured as a result of this, however officers are very keen to trace the driver as quickly as possible and are today appealing for the assistance of the public.

Community Sergeant Craig Fyall of Levenmouth Police Station said:

''It's obvious that the person responsible never had a clue how to drive this vehicle and their reckless actions could have resulted in people being injured or even worse. As a result there has been damage to a vehicle and a bus shelter. If you know who is responsible then please contact us.''

Anyone with information that might assist with the ongoing investigation is asked to contact police immediately on 101 or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
