Top Tourist Destination

Fife's top attractions, local food and drink companies and outdoor activities will be showcased at an international event today.

Tourism in the Kingdom is worth £313 million per annum and supports around 6000 jobs.

Hundreds of prominent figures from across the globe will gather in Aberdeen today for the Visit Scotland Expo. Visitors are expected from the USA, Spain, Italy, and Russia with some bookings being taken on the spot and significant other business leads gathered.

Raising Fife's profile by attending the event is a long-term investment by the Fife Tourism Partnership in the tourism sector. Building relationships and strong connections with the key travel buyers is an integral part of attracting and retaining new visitors to Fife.

With The Open in St Andrews this summer, the forthcoming V&A Museum in nearby Dundee and Fife winning 'best outdoor destination' for the eighth year in a row, it is expected that sport, attractions and outdoor activity holidays will be popular with the exhibition visitors.  Since 2015 is also the Year of Food and Drink the Fife stand will be toasting the wide range of food and drink successes including the launch of the Kingsbarns Distillery, Scotland’s only chilli farm, award-winning cheeses and locally reared meats as well as the Fife chocolate trail and network of excellent restaurants, cafes and farm shops.

Alistair Bruce, chair of the Fife Tourism Partnership said: “The exhibition is an excellent opportunity to meet tour operators and travel companies and talk to them about how much Fife has to offer. Whether it is golf, walking, outdoor activity, history or beautiful scenery we are able to exceed their expectations.  Located close to both Edinburgh and Dundee, Fife is an ideal base for visitors to enjoy city attractions as well.  This year we are also highlighting Fife’s fantastic natural larder and will be joined on stand by Fife’s newest distillery – Kingsbarns Distillery and Visitor Centre. We are very optimistic that there will be significant business coming to Fife as a result of the show.”
