Third case of coronavirus confirmed in Fife

There has been a third case of coronavirus in Fife.

It comes nearly a week after it was confirmed COVID-19 had arrived in the Kingdom, with news of the first two cases announced last Friday.

Also, the Fife Business Awards has been postponed, because of the ongoing situation with the virus.

It comes a day after Kirkcaldy's Festival of Ideas was postponed for the same reason.

As of this afternoon, the Scottish total now stands at 60.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to escalate the UK's response to the virus, into the next phase.

It's expected that will happen within the next few hours and he is chairing an emergency COBRA meeting today.

Johnson could confirm the country will switch from trying to contain COVID-19 to delaying its spread.

Schools could be shut and major gatherings face being postponed as a result.

In the Republic of Ireland, the country's Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said all schools, colleges and childcare facilities will be closed until the end of this month.

There are measures in place there to tackle the spread of coronavirus.
