Thieves Target Two Women

An appeal's been launched by police in Dunfermline after two handbag thefts within four days.

A 27 year old woman was robbed at around 7.30pm on Sunday on Woodmill Road, near to stairs leading to Shields Road.

The suspect, who spoke with a local accent, asked for her bag before running off towards Touch following a struggle.

He's described as white, aged mid to late 20's, 5ft 6inches tall, with a local accent. He was wearing a white hat and a white jacket.

Officers say they're keeping "an open mind" about the incident being linked to a similar robbery on Whitefield Road on March 4th.

A 33 year-old woman was walking near to Queen Margaret Halt when an unknown man approached her.

The man then assaulted her and robbed her of her handbag, although she did not sustain any injuries.

The suspect was described as 20-30 years old, medium build, wearing dark clothing and a dark-coloured baseball cap.

DS Karen Muirhead said: “This is the second handbag robbery in Dunfermline in under a week and this behaviour will not be tolerated in our community. I am urging anyone who saw the victim or suspect at the time of the robbery, or who recognises the suspect’s description, to get in touch.

“We are keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked and would urge anyone with information about the handbag robbery on Whitefield Road on 4 March to also come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
