Tesco Checks Out Of Kirkcaldy

Tesco store in Kirkcaldy

A major retailer's preparing to close its doors in one of Fife's largest towns.

Tesco on Hunter Street, Kirkcaldy, is the only Superstore-sized outlet being shut by the company in Scotland, with 189 jobs set to go.

Local businesses are concerned about the impact the closure will have on high street footfall.

Talks are ongoing to find new homes for the Post Office and taxi rank.

Residents spent weeks fighting the supermarket giant, with politicians and councillors rallying together to try and save the store.

Tesco employee Tom Adams said it's "very emotional":

Regeneration plans for the town centre have been placed on hold as a result of the closure. Questions are now being asked about what can be done with the large site when the supermarket moves out.

Shoppers outside the store this week were upset at the loss.
