Tackling diabetes

Figures show the rate of diabetes in Fife is above the national average.

More than 19, 000 people here suffer from type one and type two, that equates to 268, 000 Scotland wide.

The condition can lead to severe complications, such as blindness and amputation, if left untreated.

Diabetes professionals will meet with patients in Kirkcaldy today to highlight the support available.

Spokesperson for the Group, Ian Sloan said: "Diabetes is a common health condition and with a healthy lifestyle people should be able to manage their diabetes and continue to enjoy a normal day to day life.

"Unfortunately there are many myths and common mistaken beliefs about services for people with diabetes and it will be very useful to have the facts."
