Support Sought for '50:50' Holyrood

Scotland could soon be represented by a gender-balanced parliament

MPs will vote today on whether to devolve the power to create 50-50 gender quotas.

The shadow Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has tabled an amendment to the Scotland Bill - which outlines the powers to be transferred to Scotland post-Referendum - which would allow Holyrood to enforce a gender balance. At the moment, 35% of MSPs are female.

The move is supported by the leaders of all parties in Holyrood, except the Conservatives.
