Support For Velux Workers

Approximately 180 Velux workers are looking for employment as the Glenrothes site begins to wind down.

The firm announced last year that it plans to relocate the manufacturing and distrubution base down south.

Councillors and local businesses have joined forces to offer help and support to those affected.

A Business Open Day was held today by Fife Joinery Manufacturing, and supported by Fife Council's Economic Development team, which attracted attendees from Fife's business community.

Those interested got the chance to meet the highly skilled employees and take a tour of the plant.

Depute council leader Lesley Laird, spokesperson for Economy and Planning said: "The event was very positively received and gave the company a chance to showcase the wealth of talent they have. We hope those who attended will be able to help those affected by the site closure and that it will lead to new employment opportunities.

"This event is one of a range of ways the council's Economic Development team can help businesses in Fife."

Graham G Johnstone, Managing Director of Fife Joinery Manufacturing Limited, Velux's Production site in Glenrothes, added: "This event has given our fantastic employees the opportunity to showcase their skills and abilities to a wide range of businesses in the local area. I genuinely believe that our employees are some of the best available and know that any of the organisations who attended today will achieve an enormous 'win' in recruiting them."
