Summit to tackle metal theft

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is to host a summit to discuss how to tackle metal theft.

It says the crime risks lives and causes millions of pounds worth of damage. The summit will involve firefighters, British Transport Police and business and power company representatives. Assistant chief officer Lewis Ramsay, says metal theft is not a victimless crime. He says thieves' interference with power infrastructure has caused electricity surges resulting in fires breaking out and toxic smoke seeping into homes.
