Fife is set to host another summer of cycling following on from the success of the first Cycling Festival last year.

Once again the festival will be held across Fife and promises to offer something for everyone, new to cycling or ready to race.

The Active Fife team has been working with partners including local cycling clubs, triathlon clubs, Fife College, Scottish Cycling, CTC - The national Cycling Charity, and Spokes Cycles to help support a range of cycling activities and races across the summer.

First up, Dunfermline will host a closed road criterium race know as a Crit. The timed evening event will see cyclists race for 40 minutes on a lap that will take in the town centre and Pittencrieff Park.

The British National Junior Road Race Series is due to come to Kennoway where a field made up of the best 100 Youth riders in the country will take on a 75 mile route and is the first time in 25 years that the race returns to Scotland.

Other Festival events on offer will include a community cycling event at Fife College, various CycleStart led rides, children’s’ triathlons and large Cyclocross events.

Executive Committee member, Councillor Mark Hood is pleased at how the festival is developing. He said: “This packed programme is thanks to the great cycling community that we have here in Fife; one that is developing all the time.

“Volunteers of all ages and abilities are coming together to help deliver the festival which aims to put Fife firmly on the cycling map. And whilst we may be playing host to some flagship races, this festival isn’t just for keen cyclists. It’s a priority for Fife Council to help to develop cycling locally for all ages and abilities and there’s never been a better incentive for Fifers to get involved than our summer of cycling.

“Cycling is a great way for families to be active. We have growing cycling clubs coaching children and young people, opportunities to learn to ride safely through Bikeability in Schools and with over 350 miles of cycleways and lots of 20mph residential zones, we live in an ideal place to get on your bike! I hope this festival encourages people across Fife to give it a go!”
