Plastic Fivers Enter Circulation

The first polymer five pound notes enter circulation today.

The Clydesdale notes feature a map of Scotland, which changes colour from blue to green in a transparent window.

The launch is timed to coincide with the Forth Rail Bridge's 125th anniversary.

Experts say the material lasts significantly longer than paper, decreasing the environmental impact of currency, while cutting production and replacement costs.
