SNP Win By-Election

Marie Penman has retained the Kirkcaldy east council seat for the Nationalists following a by-election on Thursday.

She received a majority of 372 votes, with Labour coming second and the Conservatives third.

3, 126 people put pen to paper yesterday, that's 27% of the electorate.

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Nationalist councillor Arthur Morrison in October.

It was revealed last year that he was living and working in Austria and had attended just seven out of 47 committee meetings.
