SNP Victory in Glenrothes By-Election

Julie Ford is congratulated on her win

The SNP gained a considerable win in the Glenrothes West and Kinglassie by-election.

Julie Ford, a former caseworker for Shona Robison MSP, won with 2235 votes, 59% of the total votes cast.

Her closest competition came from Labour candidate Alan Seath, who received 1207 votes. Overall turnout was 27.1%.

Ms Ford replaces Peter Grant, who stood down in July to become an MP.

She told Kingdom FM News that one of her main priorities is to campaign against Westminster austerity cuts:

Julie Ford was born in Kirkcaldy and lives in Glenrothes. She graduated from the University of Dundee in 2012 with a 2:1 degree in history.

The election was the second in a year for the Glenrothes West and Kinglassie ward.

The full results were:

Julie Ford - SNP: 2235 (59%)

Jonathan Gray - Scottish Conservative and Unionist: 234 (6%)

Lorna Ross - Scottish Green Party: 113 (3%)

Alan Seath - Scottish Labour Party - 1207 (32%)
