Snow Warning Issued

The Met Office charts

Forecasters say there is the potential for disruption as temperatures plummet, bringing snow to parts of Scotland.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, which means 'be prepared'

Showers are expected to turn to snow during Wednesday morning and could move across the country as the day progresses.

The cold temperatures and snow showers are expected to persist into Thursday.

Motorways and trunk roads, such as the A92, are the responsibility of BEAR (Scotland) Ltd.

There are 23 primary gritting routes in Fife which cover 59% of the Kingdom's road network, that's the equivalent of 951 miles. Fife Council says the routes are classed as 'primary' because they lead to hospitals, ambulance and fire stations or are key access roads for interchanges, bus and railway stations. The aim is to treat all primary routes within three hours of operations starting.

Dave Lackie, Senior Manager (Roads and Fleet Operations) said: "We've more than 140 staff at the ready. If snow falls, our focus is to keep all the primary routes clear, as well as clearing footpaths outside schools and main shopping areas.

"We're well prepared with salt and grit levels in good reserve. We'll continue to monitor and take action to keep all main roads and bus routes as clear as possible if snow starts to fall."
