Slow Down, Don't Speed

Motorists in the north east are being urged to slow down.

Figures show many are continuing to flout the law through Gateside.

Three drivers were recently caught travelling in excess of 50mph in the 30 zone.

Andy Jones, Fife Safety Camera Partnership Manager said:

"Our deployment site is next to the local primary school, there are also busy junctions just ahead and taking account of the basic rule of motoring about street lights means 30mph, this is shocking driving behaviour. This months deployment detected three drivers who will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal due to the excessive speeds involved - over 50mph and we will continue to deploy our mobile unit in a bid to encourage all drivers to slow down."

Inspector Nicola Black, Police Scotland added:

"Consultation with the local community identified driver behaviour and speeding as one of their top priorities for local officers to focus on and the
Fife Safety Camera Partnership works closely with us by deploying at key sites to help reduce the number and severity of road casualties in North East Fife. I am particularly concerned that most speeding offences detected are associated to local people and I urge drivers to stay within the limit of 30mph.

"The restriction is set at 30mph at Gateside as it's a residential area and the restriction reduces to 20mph at key times around about school opening times so please stick to the limit set, it's there to help preserve the safety of all who use the road, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, drivers."
