Six Arrests After Armed Police Operation

The general area where the operation took place

Six men have been arrested following an undercover armed operation in St Andrews.

The males, aged between 16 and 55, have been charged with conspiracy to rob and will appear on petition at Dundee Sheriff court tomorrow.

It's after organised crime and counter-terror officers raided a property in the Hepburn Gardens/Wardlaw Crescent area of the town.

Locals told of a Police Scotland helicopter hovering over the residential streets, close to the university, and armed officers were seen searching nearby gardens.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing armed officers in plain clothes scaling walls and fences to the rear of a property before a number of males were later seen being escorted away in handcuffs.

The area, populated by a number of large houses and flats, is a mix of residents and students.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Following an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Organised Crime & Counter-Terrorism Unit on Tuesday, March 3, in St Andrews, six men aged 16-55 were today arrested and charged with conspiracy to rob.

"They are expected to appear from custody in Dundee Sheriff Court tomorrow and enquiries are ongoing."
