Sheriff Court Changes 'Slowing Justice'

The number of criminal cases being resolved within 26 weeks has dropped by 10 percent.

Scottish Conservatives research shows that the 72 percent of cases were closed before court closures were implemented, compared to 68 percent after.

In May, Cupar Sheriff Court was closed as part of Scottish Government cutbacks.

The SNP government has previously said the closures are justified to save on costs and to be part of wider reforms of the justice system.
