Sheku Bayoh Investigation

The results of post mortem examination on a Kirkcaldy man who died in police custody prove inconclusive.

Experts are set to be called in by the Crown Office to determine what caused Sheku Bayoh's death on 3rd May 2015. The 31-year-old father-of-two died following an incident in the Hayfield Road area. Police were called to respond to reports a suspect was wielding a knife.

Mr Bayoh's family launched a campaign last month calling for answers to ascertain whether the methods used to restrain him were proportionate and legitimate.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner has launched an independent review and confirmed last week that nine police officers have now provided statements.

Mr Bayoh's family lawyer is Aamer Anwar:

A Crown Office spokesperson said: “The results of the post mortem examination into the death of Sheku Bayoh have now been received.

"However, further investigation is required to ascertain the cause of death and we are in the process of instructing experts to carry out this work. “
