Second oil giant joins independence debate

Shell has become the second oil company to enter the debate over Scottish independence.

Its boss says he'd like Scotland to remain part of the UK - echoing comments from the head of BP. Chief Executive Ben van Beurden told his company's annual meeting in London he valued the 'continuity and stability' of the UK. He said the company reached the view for the same reasons it supported the UK staying in the EU. It comes a week after Shell UK's chairman, Ed Daniels, said the independent debate was a matter for Scottish people and it would be wrong for the company to intervene.
