Search for Missing Man

Allan Bryant Senior and Mhairi Deegan

The parents of a missing Glenrothes man have hit out at Police Scotland.

Allan Bryant and Mhairi Deegan, who's son Allan junior has been missing since November 2013, claim officers have 'let them down'.

Family and friends have organised a large-scale search of Auchtermuchty Woods in the hope of finding the 24-year old's body. The Bryant's claim Police Scotland have failed to send one officer to assist. Teams set off from Fife Airport at 10.00am this morning.

Police Scotland says it's the largest missing person search ever undertaken in Fife.

Allan's father, Allan Bryant senior, is telling us why the search is now being focused on this particular area:

Detective Superintendent Gordon Crossan said: “Police officers have carried out extensive searches in Glenrothes and the surrounding area in an effort to trace Allan for the past 18 months.  This has included use of specialist resources such as the force helicopter, underwater search unit and Police Search Advisors.

“Throughout this work we have kept his family informed and I understand that Mr Bryant has now employed a private agency to carry out additional searches for his son in the area of Auchtermuchty Woods.

“At present, it would be inappropriate for Police Scotland to participate in this effort as trained officers and specialist units have carried out extensive searches in areas based on intelligence gathered from members of the public and Allan’s last known movements.

“Enquiries into Allan’s disappearance continue and I would like to take the opportunity to ask anyone who may have information on his possible whereabouts to contact police immediately on 101.”
