Scots 'Struggling With Debt'

A new campaign's being launched to help one in seven Scots who struggle to sleep due to money worries.

Research released today by Step Change Debt Charity estimates 700,000 of us are kept up at night because of our financial woes.

Lack of savings, meeting the cost of household bills and debt problems have all been identified as factors.

The charity has launched a new campaign  "Need to Sleep"  which aims to offer sleepless Scots support.

StepChange Debt Charity Chief Executive Mike O’Connor said: “Millions of people are being kept awake due to money problems.  Money worries can impact on every aspect of a person’s life, from mental health problems, to relationship difficulties and to being able to do a good job at work.

“Reaching out for help to deal with financial problems can be a difficult thing to do, but people do not need to struggle alone. Free, expert and independent advice is available from StepChange Debt Charity.”

Sharon Bell, head of StepChange Debt Charity Scotland said: “Getting enough sleep is vital to maintaining good health and wellbeing, so these findings are a sobering insight into the financial pressure many Scots feel under.  However there is a solution to every money problem so nobody should feel they must struggle on alone – there is no shame in seeking help.”
