Scots Kids 'Eating Too Much Salt'

Parents are advised to cut as much salt as possible from their childrens' diets

The UK Is among the best countries in the world for regulating salt intake, but Scots children are still eating too much.

An international study by World Action on Salt and Health (WASH) shows meals from most fast food outlets in the country contain less than a gram per serving. But half of all meals still contain more than half a day's worth of salt for a 4 to 6 year old.

High intake can lead to health problems like high blood pressure, and increased risk of stroke and heard disease.

Professor Graham MacGregor, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Queen Mary University of London and Chairman of WASH, said: "The more salt you eat as a child, the more likely you are to have serious health issues in later life.

"That is why it is vitally important that children do not get used to the taste of salt."
