Rugby Fan Warning To Air Passengers

Edinburgh Airport is expected to be busier than usual this weekend with thousands of Six Nations fans flying in and out.

With thousands of rugby fans due to arrive over the next few days, Edinburgh Airport is calling on passengers to be prepared and allow extra time for travelling.

Almost 30,000 people are expected to land at Edinburgh Airport, with many arriving for the Scotland vs. Ireland RBS 6Nations clash at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Both Sunday and Monday also look busy with over 31,000 passengers set to depart over the two days.

With a busy few weekend expected, airport staff are advising passengers to be prepared, particularly if travelling to the airport.

David Wilson, Chief Operating Officer, said: "We always enjoy the amazing atmosphere that comes with the RBS 6Nations. The airport is a really vibrant place to be as fans from all over the world descend on Edinburgh.

"This year is of course no different and Scotland's last match looks set to be a cracker. Of course we want to make sure all our passengers have the best experience so we’re calling on everyone to be
prepared.

"Certain peaks over the next few days will be very busy so we’re asking anyone intending on travelling to allow a little extra time as roads and transport links may be more congested than normal. Being ready for security is also very important so please ensure all liquids, gels and pastes are 100ml or less and are presented in clear plastic bags.

"Of course we want everyone to have fun but the safety of all our passengers and the smooth operations of the airport remain paramount. We're looking forward to a great weekend and wish our national side the best of luck."
