Rise In Cost Of Coastal Homes

Seaside town house prices have nearly doubled in the past decade according to new figures.

The average price of a property by the coast is now £196,826 according to Halifax - 42% higher than in 2004.

In cash terms it's an increase of nearly £500 per month over the ten years.

The five seaside areas with the biggest rises in the UK are all in the north east of Scotland: Fraserburgh, Cove Bay, Peterhead, Inverbervie and Stonehaven.

Montrose also made the top ten along with Prestonpans in East Lothian.

However Scotland also boasts eight of the ten least expensive seaside towns in the UK - with Saltcoats in Ayrshire the cheapest north of the border.

Prices in Burntisland and Tayport increased by more than 70%, while St Andrews was the second most expensive Scottish coastal town.
