Retailers Running Out Of Time On Plastic Bags

Retailers are being urged to make sure they're ready to introduce a 5p charge for carrier bags.

From the 20th of October all shoppers will have to pay for single use bags.

Shops are being encouraged to donate the cash to charity.

Iain Gulland, Director, Zero Waste Scotland said:

“With two weeks to go until the Carrier Bag Charge comes into effect, Zero Waste Scotland is reminding retailers and shoppers alike to be prepared.

“Retailers can visit our dedicated website for a host of useful tools and materials, and shoppers should remember to bring their re-usable bags when they pop to the shops after 20th October.

“Single-use bags are a highly visible item of litter which blights our streets and seas – and the Carrier Bag Charge is an important anti-litter measure which will help cut the number of single-use bags in circulation.”
