Renewed Call For Quarry To Be Drained

There have been two deaths in the space of one year at Prestonhill quarry

Young people in Inverkeithing are calling for Prestonhill quarry to be secured after the deaths of two 18 year olds in less than a year.

John McKay drowned last month, while Cameron Lancaster died after plunging into the water in August. Pressure is mounting on the site's owners as increasing numbers of residents and politicians demand the site is filled in.

Local Councillors, MSPs and MPs hope to use new legislation introduced by Holyrood to take control of the quarry. The Community Empowerment Act was passed last month, and allows interested groups or local authorities to take control of derelict or unused areas and convert it for community use.
