Remains Found In Search For Missing Men

Human remains were found today in St Andrews

Police are investigating two separate discoveries of human remains in St Andrews.

One was made on a beach yesterday morning, another was reported this morning at East Sands.

The families of 2 fisherman whose boat capsized off the coast of East Wemyss have been informed.

Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, Area Commander for Levenmouth, said: "We are currently investigating two separate discoveries of what appears to be partial human remains.

"The first was found on a beach in St Andrews by a member of the public at around 11.30am on Sunday 16 August.  The second was discovered today on East Sands at around 10am. Family Liaison Officers have informed the relatives of two men reported missing from East Wemyss on Monday 10 August and will continue to maintain contact with them throughout our investigation.

"A detailed forensic examination of both items is now underway. Police are continuing with searches and specialist divers from Police’s Scotland Marine Unit were deployed to the East Wemyss area over the weekend. 

"Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101."
