Raith Rovers vow to strongly resist any attempt to stop them being named League One champions

Raith Rovers says any attempt to void this season and deny them the League One title will be 'vigorously resisted'.

The Kirkcaldy side backed the SPFL's resolution by last Friday's 5pm deadline to end Scotland's lower leagues early for 2019/20, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

They voted alongside 15 other clubs in their tier and in League Two.

In a statement, the Stark's Park club said as of 8pm last night, Dundee FC had not sent their revised vote.

The Dens Park club have said in their statement today they electronically sent their vote against the proposals, but for 'whatever reason', it didn't reach the SPFL.

Raith Rovers wants matters to move on to the next stage, in order for funds to be distributed and also for league reconstruction to be discussed.

They back a 14 club Premiership, alongside the lower leagues still having 10 teams each.

Their 'preferred solution' would mean fellow Fife side Kelty Hearts and Brora Rangers from the Highlands playing in League Two, with no clubs being relegated.

Barry Ferguson's team were declared Lowland League champions on Monday, while the Sutherland side were awareded the Highland League title last month.

The Stark's Park club adds they would also 'seriously consider' any alternative league model.

Before Scottish football was suspended due to the pandemic, John McGlynn's men stood one point ahead of 2nd place Falkirk in League One.

Part of last night's statement from the board of Raith Rovers said: "The SPFL documentation received by all clubs on Wednesday 8th April made it clear that declaring the season ended was the only way to achieve distribution of funds and to then proceed to the next stage.

"Several clubs wanted a guarantee that reconstruction would happen – this could not be given as it is not within the gift of the SPFL.

"Any decision on reconstruction requires a vote by all 42 member clubs.

"We were clear that this had to happen as soon as possible after the first vote.

"We would support a move to an SPFL Premiership of 14 clubs and 3 leagues below that of 10 each but will seriously consider any alternative model which emerges.

"Our preferred solution would mean admitting Kelty Hearts FC and Brora Rangers FC to SPFL League 2 with no clubs being relegated.

"This would result in 4 very competitive leagues when football eventually restarts.

"However, this cannot be considered until stage 1 of the process is completed."
