Raith Rovers Sack Manager Murray

Raith Rovers have sacked manager Grant Murray.

The 39 year old former Hearts and Kilmarnock defender replaced John McGlynn in 2012 and led the Kirkcaldy club to a Challenge Cup win over Rangers in 2013, their second major silverware.

This weekend's 4-0 defeat at home to then bottom side Livingston appears to have been the final straw.

That came after defeat to Falkirk on April 4 ended their slim hopes of reaching the playoffs. A 3-1 home loss to neighbours Cowdenbeath was then followed by defeats to Hearts and Rangers.

In a statement, the club said: "We have parted company with manager Grant Murray with immediate effect.

"Grant was appointed manager in July 2012 and his three year tenure has included an unforgettable Ramsdens Cup win and two Scottish Cup Quarter Final appearances, while Championship league status has been maintained.

"However, recent performances and results have led to today’s parting of ways.

"Grant has been an extremely hard working manager, and we wish him well in his future career within football."

Murray faced calls for his departure during the Christmas period after a poor run of results, with Maurice Malpas appointed director of football.

After that the club went unbeaten for eight games, including a 2-1 win over Rangers at Ibrox to reach he a Scottish Cup quarter finals - their second in two years.

First team coach Laurie Ellis will take charge for the final match of the season, in Saturday’s 12.15 kick off away to Dumbarton.
