Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn will miss his side's opening competitive fixture of the new season as he is undergoing surgery.

It has been revealed this morning he won't be back at the club until early next week.

Assistant boss Paul Smith is expected to be in charge for tomorrow's opening League Cup fixture against East Fife at Stark's Park.

In the meantime, McGlynn has been and intends to keep in contact with Smith and the players.

Tomorrow's match marks the Kirkcaldy team's first competitive game since March.

A message on Raith Rovers' website said: "Everyone at the football club – the players, coaching staff, volunteers and supporters wish Manager John McGlynn well today when he undergoes surgery.

"John will be away from the football club until early next week while he recovers, but has been (and will stay) in touch with Paul Smith and the players throughout and will be watching for the result at the weekend in the derby cup match."
