Push To Reverse 'Short Sighted' Library Closures

16 libraries in Fife are under threat of closure

Closing 16 libraries in Fife is 'a short sighted decision' according to campaigners.

The Keep Fife's Libraries Open group's campaigning against the closures, could affect areas including Pitteuchar, Crail and Freuchie. It's part of costcutting measures announced by Fife Cultural Trust, who've been told to save £800,000.

A petition to reverse the closures has been signed by almost 3,500 people.

Bryce Sutherland, from the Keep Fife's Libraries Open campaign, says for many they are a lifeline:

The group is meeting at the Salvation Army hall in Glenrothes at 7pm on Tuesday, 4th August, to discuss the issue.

Fife Cultural Trust says the proposed new system will build on the strengths of the existing library network, while addressing weaknesses. Bosses also claim families will benefit from longer opening hours.
