Pressure On Rogue Parking Companies

Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser will lead a debate in the Scottish Parliament on parking charges.

Murdo Fraser is hoping this debate will put pressure on rogue parking companies to amend their working practices as well as helping raise the profile of a Citizens Advice Scotland Report which details how a parking notice can be challenged.

Since April, the Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP has been helping constituents who have been hit by unfair parking charges across the region.

Citizens Advice Scotland recently launched a report which detailed legal advice on whether motorists could challenge a ticket and Murdo believes that it is vital that drivers are armed with the correct legal information.

Commenting Murdo Fraser MSP said:

“Over the past couple of months I have been inundated with constituents who have been unfairly issued parking notices as a result of using the Kinnoull Street car park in Perth City Centre. I too was handed an erroneous parking notice from this site.

“What followed in the case of too many constituents was a barrage of threatening letters from third party debt collectors. I have spoken to countless people who paid up in fear of having their credit rating affected. It is time these companies were exposed for what they are.

“Hopefully this debate will increase public awareness of their rights when it comes to challenging a privately issued parking notices. I would also encourage motorists to consult the Citizens Advice Scotland, ‘It’s not fine’ report.”
