Police Warning After Spate Of Thefts

Fifers living in remote areas are being urged to be vigilant after a spate of thefts in the North East.

Police say there have been seven thefts or attempted thefts from properties in the area between the 19th December and 7th of January.

The most recent incident happened in Newport, where a Black Mercedes 4x4 ML250 was taken along with some cash.

Sergeant Stuart Oliver said: “These type of crimes can have an enormous impact on the person or people who’s home is targeted. Often vehicles, money, jewellery and various other personal and household items are taken in these thefts.

“Small things, such as having timer lights, can make all the difference and householders are reminded to check that all windows and doors are locked when leaving the house and at night. Please shut gates/access points and ensure they are locked when not in use and keep car and house keys out of sight in a safe, concealed place.”

People are urged to keep a look out for unusual callers and can contact Police Scotland on 101 to report any suspicious activity.

Officwers say the license plate numbers of suspicious vehicles can be instrumental in catching thieves.
