Police Seek Man After Girl Approached

Police in Tayport are trying to trace a man who approached a school girl.

He stoppped and spoke with the 12-year old on Thursday evening near the Co-op on Nelson Street.

Officers have described the man as being aged between 30 and 40, of medium build with short dark hair with black rimmed glasses.

Detective Constable Nicola Howell, in charge of the enquiry, stressed that while there may have been an innocent explanation for the man’s behaviour, officers are keen to trace him to rule out any other motive.

She said: "The girl was walking with her younger brother near to the Co-op on Nelson Street, Tayport around 6pm last Thursday evening when the man spoke to her. He did so again a few minutes later, this time when she returned alone without her brother.

"The man is between 30 to 40 years old, medium build with short dark hair described as being “gelled” at the front and wearing black rimmed spectacles. He was also wearing a black jacket and dark jeans.

"We are keeping an open mind as to why he spoke to the girl the way he did and would appeal to him to contact the Police and explain his actions.

"Officers have been carrying out door to door enquires in the area and reviewing CCTV footage, however I would ask anyone who was in the area of Nelson Street, Tayport last Thursday or who may recognise the description of the man involved to contact Police Scotland on 101 or through Crimestoppers on on 0800 555 111.”
