Police station front counters in Fife are set to close or see a reduction in their opening hours.

Anstruther, Auchtermuchty, Burntisland, Cardenden, Oakley and Taycoast will shut.

Cowdenbeath, Cupar, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth will open from 7am until midnight 7 days a week, while Dalgety Bay and St Andrews will operate from 9am-5pm on weekdays only.

Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy's desks remain unaffected by the changes which come into effect on March 3.

Police Scotland is looking to save around 60 million pounds a year by reducing the provision across the country.

Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Mawson said: "Local policing remains the bedrock of the new service.

"The review of Public Counters has contributed to this with Police Scotland committed to maximising police officers on the street and in communities working to keep people safe and to provide the high standards of service the public expects.

"Police Scotland has introduced a range of new ways for communities to contact them, including enhanced local policing, the new 101 non-emergency number and a strong national and local online presence. Along with the telephone, this is now how most people contact the police."
