Police complaints not resolved on time

Complaints against the police were not resolved within a 40-day target because of a lack of basic checks.

A report by the independent watchdog found that around half of grievances with Scotland's eight forces failed the standard.

The target was missed because officers didn't understand the 40-day limit, and a lack of regular checks on complaints.

But, the paper says most of the issues have been resolved by new guidelines issued through the single force.
