Police Appeal After Train Sex Assault

The incident happened between Edinburgh and Leuchars

Transport police in Fife are appealing for information after a young woman was sexually assaulted on a train.

The 20 year old victim was was touched inappropriately by a man aged in his 50s between Leuchars and Edinburgh on October 22nd, while travelling on the 16.39 Dyce to Edinburgh Waverley service. He is also reported to have tried to kiss her.

The man responsible is further described as being about 5 ft 10 in height with short grey hair. He was wearing a round necked light blue t-shirt, with a brown long sleeved top underneath it and brown trousers. He also had a red tattoo on his right hand. He spoke with a Tyneside accent and it is believed he was travelling on to Newcastle.

The woman alighted at Haymarket station in Edinburgh and reported the incident to rail staff and police.

Detective Constable David McAlister, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, said: "I am asking anyone who has information which can help identify the man responsible to contact BTP as a matter of urgency."

CCTV from on the train and at stations is being reviewed in an attempt to identify the man responsible.
