Plea To Look After Vulnerable Neighbours

Fifers are being urged to look out for elderly or vulnerable neighbours who could be on their own during the festive period.

The council's produced a guide for people who are facing winter alone or need extra help - and this year requests for a copy have more than doubled.

They say strong emotions of Christmas, stress and poor weather can all combine to make a difficult period for some - and it's everyone's responsibility to make sure everyone in the community is supported.

John Myles, chair of the Adult Protection and Child Protection committee, is urging people to pop round and see lonely neighbours and even buy a few extra items of food for them.

He also says any serious concerns need to be reported: “If you are worried about someone’s safety or wellbeing, don’t wait until you’re certain - speak to someone as soon as possible and tell them about your concerns. If you consider them to be in immediate danger call Police Scotland on 999.

“If you know an adult is at risk of harm or suffering from neglect call the Adult Protection Phone Line on 01383 602200. If you have concerns about a child call Social Work on 01383 441177."
