Petition Over Tragic Quarry

John McKay died after drowning in Prestonhill Quarry

A petition to drain and fill-in Prestonhill Quarry in Inverkeithing has gained almost 2, 500 signatories.

It's after a second death at the site in less than a year. 18 year old John McKay drowned at the quarry after getting into difficulty on Thursday night, while Cameron Lancaster died in August while taking part in an ice bucket challenge.

Local politicans want to use new legislation to take control of the site. Councillor Alice McGarry hopes the Community Empowerment Act can help. It allows groups or bodies to take over derelict or abandones sites. She told Kingdom FM News it's now a matter of urgency:

Investigations into the circumstances of Mr McKay's death are ongoing, Police Scotland say "enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident".
